Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about our services? This bespoke picture framing FAQs section covers everything you need to know — from turnaround times and materials to mounting styles and delivery options. Whether you’re an artist, interior designer, or collector, discover how Epic Art Story ensures every frame is handcrafted with precision, care, and museum-quality materials.

How long does it take to complete a custom frame?

Each frame is crafted by hand, and turnaround depends on the current queue and the complexity of the project. Most orders are fulfilled within 3 days to 2 weeks. Speciality materials (like museum glass or rare mouldings) or complex conservation work may take longer. If you’re working on a tight deadline, just let us know and we’ll do our best to help.

Our bespoke framing services start at £99. Each piece is made to measure, handcrafted and tailored using archival-quality materials, including premium wood, conservation-grade mountboard, museum or UV-filtering glazing, and acid-free backboards.
Framing is a time-consuming and highly detailed process, designed to preserve and enhance your artwork’s value. If you’re an artist, collector, or designer who values craft and conservation, you’re in the right place.

There are virtually no limits to how artwork or 3D objects can be framed — creativity is part of the process. However, here are the most commonly used and visually striking methods we offer:

Traditional Mounting

A timeless approach using mountboard to enhance the artwork. This technique creates visual harmony between the artwork and the frame while ensuring the artwork doesn’t touch the glass — essential for long-term preservation.
Neutral mountboards are a safe, elegant choice that never overpowers the art. This method is ideal for prints, paintings, or photographs that benefit from a classic, refined presentation.

Box Frame

A contemporary method that uses spacers to create depth between the artwork and the glazing. The artwork sits recessed, with subtle shadows around the edges that add dimension and intrigue.
This style offers a clean, modern look and works beautifully for textured artworks, textiles, or when a minimalist aesthetic is desired.

Elevated Float Mount

Here, the artwork is mounted on top of a rigid substrate and raised using a plinth, appearing to “float” above the background. It’s then surrounded by spacers within the frame, creating both depth and focus.
Multiple layers of mountboard in different tones can be combined to add contrast, warmth, or bold character — making this an expressive and highly customizable option.

Traditional Float Mount

The artwork is gently mounted on top of a mountboard without elevation. This reveals the edges of the piece — ideal for items where the deckled (torn) edges, texture, or history are part of its charm.
It’s an elegant choice for vintage letters, rare prints, papyrus, or delicate works on handmade paper where authenticity and fragility are visually celebrated.

Tray Frame (L-Shape)

In this method, the artwork is raised to sit flush with the edge of the frame, leaving an open, borderless view — no glazing is used.
Tray frames are often used for photographs, aluminium prints (like ChromaLuxe), canvases, or artworks that are sealed or don’t require glazing. The result is sleek and gallery-worthy — ideal for contemporary interiors.

With so many characteristics, uses, and finishes, choosing the right glazing can feel overwhelming—but we’re here to guide you.
We offer a broad range of glazing options, including:

  • Standard float glass – Clear and cost-effective for general use

  • Anti-reflective glass – Reduces glare for better visibility

  • UV-protective glass – Helps prevent fading from sunlight exposure

  • Museum glass – Industry-leading clarity and up to 99% UV protection

  • High-quality acrylic – Lightweight, shatter-resistant, and ideal for large pieces or international shipping

We’ll help you choose the best option based on your artwork, environment, and budget.
